In ancient times, in the bay known today as Bardakçı, there were a pristine lake and a beautiful nymph both named Salmakis. One day, while bathing, she saw Hermaphroditus, the son of Hermes and Aphrodite, and fell deeply in love with him.

However, Hermaphroditus rejected her. Devastated, Salmakis prayed to the gods to unite them forever. Taking pity on her, the gods merged their bodies into one. From that day on, Salmakis and Hermaphroditus lived eternally in a single body possessing dual nature.
